Bear Witness Day

Bear Witness Day marks a significant date in the history of the implementation of Jordan’s Principle. The first non-compliance order called for Canada to fully implement Jordan’s Principle by May 10th, 2016. Though it took several years, this day we remember and honour Jordan River Anderson and celebrate Spirit Bear’s birthday. Jordan’s favourite toy, a teddy bear, has become a powerful symbol in the fight against discrimination toward First Nations children and families.

“Spirit Bear represents 165,000 First Nation children impacted by the First Nations child welfare cases at the Canadian Human Rights tribunal and the thousands of other children who have committed to learning about the case and taken part in peaceful and respectful action in support of reconciliation and equity.”

Join us on Friday, May 10th at 10:00am in the Atrium as we and children from the Inspired By Wonder Daycare “Bear Witness” and celebrate Bear Witness Day by throwing Spirit Bear a birthday party!! Peanut-free cupcakes will be provided.

You can show your support and “Bear Witness” by bringing in your teddy bear with you to work or by taking a photo with your teddy bear and sharing it on social media using the hashtags #JordansPrinciple and #BearWitnessDay .
